Description
In this four-part BBC travelogue, Michael sets out to discover a country that is set to become a 21st century superpower. Beginning in the northeast of Brazil, where the first Europeans settled, Michael journeys southwards across the world’s fifth largest nation by river, plane and foot, taking in the diverse peoples, cultures and sites on route, and sampling the vibrant, colourful life of this re-emerging country.
From the lost world of Amazonia to the buzzing metropolis of Rio de Janeiro, Michael meets the people and visits the places that shape this fascinating nation. He travels by river-boat, sea-plane and on foot to visit tribes deep in the jungle; experiences the heady mix of Rio de Janeiro and the African-inspired culture of São Luís; Recife and Salvador. He encounters the super-rich who commute by helicopter; tastes German beer served from a motorcycle sidecar and tries his hand at being a cowboy.
Brazil is beautifully filmed, taking in remote tribes on the Venezuelan border, the modernist buildings of Brasilia to the spectacular Iguaçu Falls, where his journey ends.
